Chief Financial Officer

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) serves four schools in the three northern Saskatchewan Denesuline First Nations communities of Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake and has its Central Office located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The ADEA is seeking an innovative and strategic individual for the position of Chief Financial Officer to be based at its Central Office.  The position will initially begin as a 0.5 FTE.  Reporting to the Director of Education the position will:

 

  • Model financial leadership practices and support the development of effective financial knowledge and skills with senior administrators and school-based administrators.
  • Develop procedures relative to the business-related functions of the Authority.
  • Provide oversight of the Authority’s payroll services.
  • In conjunction with the Director and senior administrators, prepare and present an annual budget for approval by the Authority Board.
  • Support senior staff and school-based administrators in the development of annual department and school budgets and the ongoing monitoring of expenditures consistent with the budget.
  • Maintain a chart of accounts to effectively document and monitor all revenues and expenditures and explain variances as required.
  • Conduct internal audits to monitor financial controls.
  • Work with the Authority’s banking institution to maintain Authority accounts and lines of credit.
  • Ensure compliance with records retention and disposal functions.
  • Lead the Authority in the annual external audit process and provide direction in response to any audit deficiencies.

 

Qualifications include:

 

  • A post secondary degree in business administration or another relevant area.
  • A professional designation in accountingis an asset.
  • Extensive experience in education finance.
  • A strong commitment to First Nations education.
  • Knowledge of Denesuline language and culture is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and motivate staff toward shared goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to take initiative.
