Support Services Coordinator Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority



The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) serves four schools in the three northern Saskatchewan Denesuline First Nations communities of Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake and has its Central Office located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The ADEA is seeking an innovative and strategic individual for the position of Support Services Coordinator to be based at its Central Office.  Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the position will:

  • Provide leadership for special education programming and second level special education services as well as behaviour programming.
  • Work collaboratively to develop Special Education/Behaviour Management procedures and protocols.
  • Represent ADEA in meetings with funding bodies such as Indigenous Services Canada.
  • Work collaboratively with school-based staff to identify, implement and monitor appropriate evidence based special education instructional and assessment practices, resources and technology applications.
  • Assist in the development of behavioural programs and services.
  • Ensure that programs are meeting the needs of students with special needs.
  • Support and supervise second level service staff and/or contractors and school-based special education services.
  • Ensure that all required student assessment and diagnosis is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all required student documentation is collected and maintained.
  • Ensure that individual education plans for students are completed by school staff.
  • Support the allocation and deployment of assistive technology for designated students.
  • Train and support special education school-based staff.
  • Provide inclusive education in-service across the Authority.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with outside service providers and agencies.
  • Prepare and present reports describing and monitoring programming and student results.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets to support programming.

Qualifications include:

  • A Saskatchewan Professional A Teaching Certificate.
  • A Master of Education in Inclusive Education/Special Education or Special Education Certificate is an asset.
  • Extensive experience in special education programming and leading/supporting multi-site/regional support services initiatives.
  • A strong commitment to First Nations education.
  • Knowledge of Denesuline language and culture is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and motivate staff toward shared goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to take initiative.
